Dress Code

The District's dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safty hazards. Students and parents may determine a student's personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

Student's in the 7th through the 12th grade may not wear:

Any shorts, this includes skorts, culottes, or other split garments. Shorts may be worn the first and last six weeks only. Shorts must be hemmed and no shorter than 3" from the top of the kneecap. They must be pulled up to the waist, and the crotch must not sag. Capri pants may be worn all year.
No head covering of any type shall be worn(caps, hats, bandanas, sewatbands, ect.)-except in cases of medical reasons.
Tank tops described as cut away shoulders and enlarged armholes. Width across shoulder must be at least 3" and no lower than 2" below the armpit.
Clothing that exposes body parts, i.e., bare midriffs, low cut back or front necklines, crop tops( even under overalls). Shirts must cover waistband of pants.
Exposed body piercing(other than ears), no tongue rings or tattoos.
House shoes, thongs, flip flops, or shoes designed for beach or bath wear.
Excessive or distracting makeup or hair colors( no multi-colored) or unnatural colors.
Clothing with obscene language or symbols, provacative pictures, advertising of alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, racially related symbols or satanic symbols on clothing, jewelry, or exposed body part that would distract or cause attention.
Symbols, words, or slogans cut into hair that are obscene, racially related, provacative, or otherwise deemed inappropriate by the campus principal.
Facial hair of any kind.
Students are to wear their hair clean, well groomed and out of theier eyes. Boys' hair must not extend below the top of the collar of a dress shirt and not extend below the ear. Boys' hair may not be worn in a ponytail. Boys' sideburns must be trimmed close to the face and no longer than the middle of the ear. No distracting haircuts deemed inappropiate by the campus principal. ( Example: No mohawks or hair that is shaved on bottom and long on top.)
Excessively loose or baggy clothing that results in "sagging". Pants must be pulled up to the waist and the crotch must not sag. The length should not be so long that they gather on the floor around the shoe or could be walked on. All garments must be hemmed and not fringed.
Dark glasses( unless prescribed by a physician). Only natural colored contact lenses.
See-through, provacative, or excessively tight clothing, i.e., spandex tights, pants, jeans, skirts, leather pants, or plastic pants.
Torn clothing.
Clothing worn in a manner, for which it was not intended, i.e., backwards, inside-out, off-the-shoulder suspenders on overalls. (Exceptions: school sponsored activities.)
Any accessory or clothing article deemed "gang related" or promotes illegal behavior as determined by the school administration.
Trench coats, or gothic apparel.
Dresses and skirts shorter than 3" above the kneecap.
Inappropriate undergarments.
Students may be required to shower before leaving athletics/P.E. classes to maintain appropriate hygiene.
Females may wear no more than 2 earrings. It is recommended that earrings not be worn to school because of saftey reasons.
No males may wear earrings. Band-Aids may not be worn to cover earrings.
Link chains hanging from clothing or worn as jewelry.
Excessively long shirt length. Shirts with tailored tails must be tucked in. Sleeves must be buttoned and not extend below the wrist.
Snap-side pants allowed( tear- away).
Wind pants not zipped around the leg.
Martin's Mill ISD discourages the wearing of expensive jewelry ad other apparel and is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Teacher/coaches/sponsors may define appropriate dress for school-sponsored trips and extracurricular activities. Students who violate those standards may be removed or excluded from the activity by the principal or sponsor and may be subject to other disciplinary action.
homeboubd and ALPHA students must follow dress code while on Martin's Mill ISD campus.
Final decisions on the appropriateness of school dress rest with the campus administration.
* Exception- dress for PE may not adhere to these guidelines.
