| Dear Parents/Guardians: |
| As we begin a new school year, please review the following information
on the school health program for the year 2006-2007: |
| Emergency Cards: It is very important that you complete
and return the emergency card as soon as possible. We need to be able to find parents or other responsible adults that you designate in case of illness, injury, or other emergency. Emergency cards need to be updated if there are changes made throughout the school year. |
| Medication: The administration of medication in school
is strictly regulated. All medication, either over-the-counter or prescribed by a physician, must be turned into the nurse's office with written authorization. The medication form is available in the office. All medication must be in the original container. It is helpful to have the pharmacist make two containers (one for you and one for the school). |
| Immunizations: All students must be current on their
immunizations. It is very important that, in the event your child receives an immunization update during the school year, a copy is sent to the school so it may be recorded in our records. |
| Meningitis: Attached is information on Bacterial Meningitis.
This information is to educate parents about the symptoms of this disease and what to do in the event that a student is diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. |
| Guidelines for School Attendance: It can often be difficult
to decide whether to keep your child home if he/she is complaining of not feeling well. Here are some general guidelines for keeping your child home: |
| • Fever of 100° or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours
before returning
to school). |
| • Vomiting or diarrhea (may return to school 24 hours after the last episode). |
| • Eye lids stuck together with dried crusts, red appearance, and/or
discharge from the eyes. "Pink Eye" is very contagious, thus, we recommend children be kept at home until symptoms subside or until they are released for return to school by a physician. |
| • Excessive nasal drainage or persistent cough. |
| • Unusual rash, especially an extensive rash or one with blisters
(check
with your doctor for cause and when able to return). |
| • Less than 24 hours on an antibiotic for treatment of strep throat
or
other contagious illness. |
| • Any sign of lice infestation (i.e. nits or live bugs). There
is a "No
Nit" Policy in place at our school, therefore, all lice and nits must be removed. Your child will be checked when he/she returns and if any nits are found, they will be sent home. Please teach children not to share hats, combs, brushes, and other hair items. |
| Health services help to support your child's educational experience. |

I look forward to a safe and healthy school year. |
