Martin’s Mill ISD offers an approach to develop an understanding of why the child engages in problem behavior and strategies to prevent the occurrence of problem behavior while teaching the child new skills or replacement behaviors. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports offer a holistic approach that considers all factors that have an impact on a child and the child’s behavior. It can be used to address problem behaviors that range from aggression, tantrums, and property destruction to social withdrawal.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.
Tier 1 practices and systems establish a foundation of regular, proactive support while preventing unwanted behaviors. Martin’s Mill ISD provides these universal supports to all students, school-wide.
Tier 2 practices and systems support students who are at risk for developing more serious problem behaviors before those behaviors start. These supports help students develop the skills they need to benefit from core programs at Martin’s Mill ISD.
At Tier 3, students receive more intensive, individualized support to improve their behavioral and academic outcomes. At this level, school teams in conjunction with parents may rely on formal assessments to determine a student’s need.
